Academic opportunities

The school offers a wide range of academic opportunities designed to challenge our academic students. In Year 7 and 8 we have a Targeted academic program (TAPS).

Students in the Year 7 and 8 TAPS classes learn thinking skills and an emphasis is placed on higher order thinking tasks and activities.

Learning Centre

The school offers a Learning Centre for all students to study, complete homework and access tutoring or extra help in any subject.

See your Deputy Principal of your year to self-refer.

Targeted Academic Program (TAP's)

Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following areas of ability at school - intellectual, creative, social and physical.

Our gifted and talented program provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum. Examples of gifted and talented opportunities offered to our students include:

  • Year 7-10 Academic Challenge and Excellence Program (students work in groups to solve a business problem using thinking skills)
  • University of Wollongong Learning labs (conducted during the school holidays)
  • School band and choir
  • Year 7 & 8 Targeted Academic Program
  • Public Speaking Program
  • South Coast Writers Centre Writing Workshops
